The Death of Dracula at the L'Étrange Festival in Paris

The one-hour black-and-white silent film made in 2025 is a reinterpretation of Károly Lajthay's lost 1921 silent film, The Death of Dracula (Drakula halála). Only a few photographs, contemporary press materials, and a novelization based on the film have survived; based on these, the students of our Department re-created the story under the guidance of Dr. Róbert Lakatos.

The Death of Dracula premiered in 2025 in the Cinema Regained section of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and has since been featured in the programs of several international festivals, including Trieste, Cottbus, and Moscow (read more about the film's international festival tour). The screening at L’Étrange Festival is another milestone in the film's international festival circuit.

The 32nd edition of the L’Étrange Festival will take place from September 1 to 12 in Paris at the Forum des Images. The festival focuses primarily on horror, fantasy, science fiction, and related experimental genres. The Paris screenings will be held on September 4 and September 7.
