The professor in our department received this award in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the field of film and media studies, his pioneering work in researching intermediality in film art, and her foundational work in this film school.
On May 8, 2025, the János Arany awards and medals were presented, through which the Academy recognizes the work of Hungarian researchers abroad. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences honored Dr. Ágnes Pethő with the János Arany Award for outstanding scientific achievements. The award was presented by Tamás Freund, President of the Academy.
According to the information brochure published by the Academy, "Dr. Ágnes Pethő's outstanding achievements in the field of film and media studies, her pioneering work in researching intermediality in film art, and her school-founding activities are exemplary."
The text mentions the following about her research work: "Her academic work is an exceptionally consistent research (and teaching) career, whose key concepts are intermediality and self-reflexivity in cinematic art, the relationship between film and the other arts, as well as the poetics of modern and postmodern film. In this sense, her work is considered revolutionary, as it has elevated theoretical considerations regarding the interaction between the arts to the level of an independent discipline within the humanities."

In honor of Ágnes Pethő's research work, a collection of studies entitled Intermedial Encounters / Intermediális találkozások was published in 2022, containing texts in English and Hungarian.
We sincerely congratulate her on this well-deserved award and wish her continued success in her work!
