Thanks to this step, the university is recognized as disposing of all the rights of a higher education institution: the right to organize final examinations and also the right to Romanian public funding, among others. The Senate of the Romanian Parliament voted in favour of the full accreditation in December 2012, the present vote came from the House of Commons as the final instance. The Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) examined the university's activity in the period between 2007-2010, with the result that the institution fully satisfied the Romanian criteria for accreditation, thus the ARACIS proposed the accreditation of 14 departments, and the university as an institution as well.
During its session today the House of Commons also voted for the full accreditation of Sapientia The Hungarian University of Transylvania. Kötő József (representative of the DAHR/RMDSZ in the Senate) presented the positive decision of the educational committee regarding the law-project of the Hungarian University of Transylvania, followed by discussion of the clauses. 172 were present in the session of the House of Commons, with 161 members voting for the full accreditation of Sapientia University, 3 members voting against, and one member not voting. The law will be fully effective on the day of its publication in Monitorul Oficial [Official Monitor].
Institutional accreditation is of crucial importance for the university, as this gives the right to organize final examination for its students, as well as to issue diplomas, to establish programs targeting master's and doctoral (PhD) degrees, as well as to organize long-distance learning, participate in programs and applications of the European Union, and this also creates the entitlement to Romanian public funding.
