The church and abbey of the grey friars in Cluj-Napoca: then and now
10/08/2012 04:17 PM
Photo exhibition and documentary screening with the participation of teachers and students from Sapientia University, opening on the 14th of August 2012.
A renowned spot of Transylvania's architectural history, the church and abbey of the grey friars in Cluj has served during the centuries as home to monks and kings, but also as school. The grey friars were offered full ownership of the building-complex in 2011, but it necessitates serious renovation. Thanks to its central positioning, and specific beauties it may well be integrated in the cultural infrastructure of our city, and we hope to have made a first step in this direction.
On the photographs and documentaries we wish to highlight its former and current state. Participating teachers and students are: Orsolya Tóth, Mira Marincas, Csaba Balázs, Zoltán Ballók, Lajos Fekete, Szabolcs Kővári, Edina Jankó, Anikó Moldvai, Tibor Veiszenbacher, Noémi Zelkó. Former Cluj photographer, Orbán Lajos's works, and archival images from the grey friars' archive are also exposed, as well as last year's assessment data from the Digital Archive of the Transylvanian Museum Society (EME).
The exhibition is in the refectory of the grey friars' abbey, and the opening address is by Dr. Márton Tonk, dean of Cluj Faculty, Sapientia University, rev. Szabolcs Orbán, head of the Transylvanian Grey Friars Order, Ms. Enikő Bitay, chief secretary (EME), Mr. Szabolcs Guttmann, president of the Romanian Chamber of Architects' Transylvanian Branch, Dr. Dorel Gaina, university professor (UAD, Sapientia University), photo artist.
Everyone interested is welcome!
