We also participate in the EUFA (European University Film Awards) discussions and jury

Beginning with the university year 2016-2017 our department too participates in the EUFA project, together with other 20 universities all over Europe. The project was initiated in 2016 by the European Film Academy (EFA) and Filmfest Hamburg, and its aim is to have five potential winners of the European Film Awards included and discussed in the framework of university courses.

In the Media Department the courses tutored by Andrea Virginás - Contemporary Film Theory, 3rd year BA, and Narration in Film, 1st year MA - house the project. In the period October-November 2017 five films are screened and discussed from the perspective of realism in film, psychoanalytical film theory, feminist film theory, or postcolonial film theory.

The five films were chosen by a jury designated by the organising institutions: Heartstone (d. Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, Iceland), Home (d. Fien Troch, Belgium), Loveless (d. Andrej Zvjagincev, Russian Federation, Belgium, France, Germany), The Other Side of Hope (d. Aki Kaurismäki, Finland, Germany), and The War Show (d. Andreas Dalsgaard, Obaidah Zytoon, Denmark, Syrian Arab Republic, Finland). The below picture captures the screening of Home.

In December 2017 one of the participating students will represent us in the Hamburg jury, together with the student representatives of the other 20 universities, meant to designate the winner of the 2017 European University Film Award.
