The Balassi Institute (Budapest) organized The Hungarian Film Week in the period 19-25 November at the Romanian Peasant's Museum in Bucharest. Such feature films were screened as Péter Bergendy's A vizsga/The Exam, a drama about agents under communism, György Pálfi's entertaining montage film, Final cut - Hölgyeim és Uraim!/Final Cut - Ladies and gentlemen!, Péter Gárdos' Tréfa/The Joke, A halálba táncoltatott lány/The Girl Danced to Death directed by Endre Hules, and finally Ideje az öregségnek/Time for Oldness, based on writings by Alaine Polcz.
All the eight Hungarian films in competition at the Alter-Native Festival were screened during the Film Week, among them films of our former students: Az ajtó/The Door, Kilépés/Sign Out and Kövek/Stones.
Director Radu Igazság, associate professor of UNATC, Bucharest evaluated the films, and the Hungarian language daily in Cluj-Napoca, Szabadság, summarized his words: "he said that currently film production in Cluj-Napoca is evidently linked to Sapientia. He alluded to the fact that the idea of a Cluj-Napoca based film studio was already in the air in 1992; however this is an endeavour that necessitates enormous investment. In his opinion it would be much more important, for film professionals in Transylvania, that small, private studios should emerge that could hire young graduates, easing their entrance in the profession. (...) In Radu Igazság's opinion a number of talented young filmmakers emerged in Cluj-Napoca, and he referred to CecÃlia Felméri, who in the meanwhile participated in a master's programme as well at the Bucharest Film Academy. The director also mentioned Botond Pál, who, in his words, is ready to direct his first feature."
