This research project continues the previous research conducted by Melinda Blos-Jáni and Orsolya Tóth about everyday media practices and locally known amateur filmmakers. The new research aims at the creation of an empirical database and amateur film collection, which in the following 5 years will become part of the regional film archive, planned by our department.
The research program will concentrate upon visual anthropological fieldwork : we will look for amateur filmmakers and conduct inteviews with them and collect data about the context of the filmmaking (amateur film clubs, the accesability of technology). Departing from the empirical database further theoretical questions will be raised regarding the visual culture in the region of Transylvania: the identity of visual media and its embeddedness in the historical context will be interpreted.
Research fields: media history, history of everyday life, visual anthropology, visual culture.
